Granddaughter's Wedding Gift

Recently I attended the wedding of one of my granddaughters. I worked on a quilt that I thought she

would like, since she likes romantic things.  This one had muted color and vintage doilies.  I was

very pleased with how it turned out and immediately got orders for two more of them!  Whew!

Although it is beautiful, I think that I am most proud of the free motion quilting I did on this one!

I have never before done an all free motion quilt!  It's not perfect, but was an accomplishment for me!

Alterations! No CQ!

This week, I cannot show you the progress on my crazy quilting class project, because there wasn't any!  I have spent the week altering my granddaughter's wedding dress!  She bought a pricey gown that was a little too tight in the bodice, and she wanted the train to bustle.  It was going to cost her "an arm and a leg" to use her words, to have it altered where she bought it, so she asked grandma! It is my wedding gift to her.

I had to remove the zipper (well, actually I cut it down keeping the part below the waist.)  I added a ribbon lace up closure.  Thought you might like a sneak peek:

The wedding is today, so I will post a few pics next week of her in the gown! See you next week!

More of Bella's art (see yesterday's post), displayed on the mantel.
Soon, her mom will need an entire wall.

After my own heart . . .

A girl "after my own heart" . . . have you ever heard this expression?  Meaning a kindred spirit, someone who likes what you like, originally used in the Bible when God was looking for a king, someone to rule like He himself would.  Well, one of my grands is shaping up to be a girl after my own heart!  She is Bella Jo, she is nearly 5 years old (in September) and she is taking up painting and art!  She used to draw a picture, wad it all up in a cute ball, and reach her hand out to you with the ball in it and say:  "Here I made you a present!"  I think that she is beyond that stage now!

Bella's mischief look!

Shes says that she wants to be a painter/designer!  Here is the picture she was working from and her finished work in the bottom picture:

Feels good to know that your artful heart will have a legacy down in the generations!  Yay! Go Bella!

Practice Pieces

(Ongoing series on the Grandma Books)

The box I pulled from the closet had some practice pieces for the first book in the series.

The book is called, Grandma Doesn't Like the Stairs!  My granddaughter, Taylor, had asked me one time when I was visiting her house, why I was slow on the stairs in her house.  I guess she was used to everyone in her family running up and down the stairs.  It gave me an idea for a book and then a series of "Grandma Books".  (I should be an expert on that subject, since I have so many grandchildren!!!! You can look at my profile--About Me tab--for a peek at my family life! )  This first book is obviously dedicated to Taylor! She is now 13 years old and in junior high school.

Thanks Taylor!

The Hair Cut

Out the door she went, sporting a new haircut, skipping and wagging her head, obviously proud of her new do!  I felt as if I had been on a battleground. The hairdresser had tried to to her best, but those gouges were hard to cover with a good cut! But now it was done!  Would it stay done?! She had taken a scissors to her own hair--this was the third time!  Why did this little girl insist on taking my scissors and clipping snippets of hair from her head?  As she walked in front of me to the car, I could still see the little short patches on the back of her head. Was this five year old destined to become a hairdresser herself or was it indicative of a passion for patchwork?  "Who knows," I said softly to myself, "I just hope this haircut lasts a week!"

This story is real.  I visited by son and his family this week.  My daughter-in-law told me about my five year old granddaughter LaRaya, who had done just what I wrote about, cut her own hair three times.  I just embellished it a bit!
