Weekend Apron Special

My girls texted each other in a group text the other day (whatever happened to phone conversations?) about the family Thanksgiving plans.  Who would like to host?  In which town would we travel to?  Who needed accommodations, etc  Inside of a few minutes, all was decided and plans are made!  WOW! All I had to do was keep watching the texts flying! :)

Anyway, I thought of Thanksgiving and thought that I had better be proactive like my girls!  Sew . . .

I decided that I needed to offer aprons for all you cooks out there!  Sew . . .

if you purchase any apron this weekend, thru September 28th actually, you will get free shipping! Yes . . . I will pay for your shipping!!  Yay!!!! (On a minimum purchase of $10)! (Just click on the picture link to get to my shop.)

Design Mistakes

Ever made a design mistake or not been happy with a finished project?  I know you have! All of us creatives have done it!  Usually the project gets left in a box somewhere unfinished and unloved.

I recently made a mistake that resulted in a new way for me to produce one of the staples of my business!  Hooray for mistakes!!!!!  I mostly make aprons for wholesale clients.  One of my buyers wanted some autumn aprons.  So, when I was working on a child apron, I chose a bright yellow stripe accent fabric for a darker leaf print which highlighted the yellowing leaves.  But the mistake came when I was finishing the apron, like I usually do, with bias binding.  I have finished aprons with bias binding for a couple of years now,  instead of using a facing which adds a lot more work to the project.

Sample of my previous style - Great if you want to emphasise a certain color: (Note the edging)

But this autumn apron body just didn't work with a framing of yellow.  I didn't like the look of it!

so I decided to rip it out!

Then I used a simple fold over hem with a decorative stitch--Hope you can see it in this photo:
(P.S.  Don't look at the ugly underside attachment of the tie--it's ugly and I ripped it out!)

Voila!  Here is the finished apron! I think it has a cleaner more finished look and I like it much better! I have since used this finishing on other aprons and find that  I prefer it.  My new line of aprons for 2015 will all have this finished seam!  Funny how a design flaw can reap a new style!

Any thoughts?

Graduation Time!

Spent the end of May with a little trip to California to see our grandson's graduation.  It was an intimate affair, since there were only eight graduates but it had all the attractions of a larger ceremony! There were slide shows of the life of each grad, and diplomas were given out by the parents of each grad, since it was a home school association graduation!  The best part was the selfie that they took at the end. :)

And . . . when in California . . . one cannot miss our favorite lunch spot:  "the crazy chicken!"  When My kids were growing up, we used to eat there frequently, since it was just around the corner!  My teen-aged boys loved it!

One of our friends liked this photo and wanted us to post a picture of his favorite place, In n' Out Burger! So, since we have neither of these in Oregon, we ate there and posted a picture for him on Facebook!

Since I have been back, I have been very busy with my business.  I acquired a new wholesale account, which I am elated about!  They like this apron--the newest addition to my wholesale line:

I call it my "Frilly" apron, since I have three rows of "frill" on the bottom!

And a cute brooch on the top!

What have you been up to?

P.S.   My mom used to ask and then follow it up with an answer to the question saying: "No good?"  We would always laugh!

Work finished!

On the 8th of this month, I shared some of my work in progress--see post.    (I reserve Thursday's for my work in progress post!)  I was working half market aprons.

If you remember, I asked for some help in picking out fabric combinations.  I didn't make a big deal of it, but I mentioned that I would send a prize to one of my lucky commenters! (It helps to read carefully to win! :) I chose this set of coasters with a tan coffee drink print on one side and beautiful pink and cocoa hearts on the other to give away!

So, since there was only one comment, I didn't need to use a random selector!  The prize goes to Edi of Etsy's memoriesforlifesb shop! She is a fellow blogger and I appreciate her faithfulness to comment regularly on my blog posts.  Thanks Edi! (Please visit her blog)  Also, Edi has a brand new studio decorated in pink! I think these should match nicely!  Love ya! Edi!

Oh . . . and . . . here are a few of my finished aprons:

And the combination that Edi chose:

Thanks Edi!
P.S.  You could also use the coasters for wine coasters with your etched wine glasses ;)

Work in progress, a question, and a prize!

Working lately on half market aprons.  Here one that I think turned out so cute!  I just love this chili pepper fabric!

Since it is Spring, I wanted to use up the yellow fabric.  Here is another combination with the yellow:

I had used this gray fabric to make my DIL an allover apron some time ago, and had some remnants.  Also working on some other combinations:

but . . .
would like your opinion on this next one. It's a cute multicolor print of fancy birds on a white/cream background.  What do you think? What color do I put with it? Try not to be influenced by the blue quilt background :) Options are a pale green gingham, t a bright teal scroll print, light teal butterfly flower print, red/salmon texture print, or an allover tiny floral pale teal print.  Or should I keep looking?

Not so easy is it?  Sometimes the best combination for a particular fabric is hard to choose!   Let me know what you think in the comments and I will share some finished apron pictures next Thursday!  I might even send a set of coasters to one lucky commenter!
Good luck!
And . . . Thanks!
