Scraps!

Those of you who know me personally, know that I love scraps of fabric! I save all sizes of scraps

and I use them in all kinds of projects, so when I saw a similar art hoop with flowers on it,

I decided to use up some of my scraps!!!  Fun!!!

Scrap Use

Recently I purchased a bag full of fabric at Goodwill.  Lots of cottons in various sizes, mostly 1/2 yard cuts and larger.  But, one stack was a grouping of pre-cut squares and rectangles, about two dozen of them.  Squares were approximately 10 inches and rectangles were about 4 by 8 inches.  What to do with them???

I let them sit for a couple of weeks, then I got an idea.  There were several batman pieces and two ninja turtle pieces.  I decided that they would make great snack mats for little boys!  Sew . . . here's what I did with some of them:

Aren't they fun!

Matching Coasters!

We are house and pet sitting for a friend, which involves some TV watching, since we need to stay close.  I always have my tea cup handy and my hubby likes to have ice water.  Our friends have matching recliners and end tables facing the TV, but much to my surprise, no coasters!  There was a folded paper towel on one end table, so I decided to make use of the huge sewing studio and using some of my fabric scraps, make them some -- matching their mostly blue decor, of course!

  What do you think?

New Quilt Blocks

Remember last week when I cleaned and straightened my fabric shelves?  Since my shelves were color organized, it inspired me to do a new quilt--thread spools!  Perfect for a sewer like me!

Here are the blocks that I have finished this week.To be honest, I saw something like this in a catalog, I didn't like the way it was symmetrical, so  I made my own pattern.  I am very partial to crazy quilting and scrap quilting, and this pattern lends itself very well, looking like the thread wrapped around the spools!

I used scraps and small pieces from my stash. Sewed the strips together in random order, until I could get approximately the right size,

then I added the white side pieces, cut off the excess and added the spool top and bottom pieces,

I am very pleased with my blocks thus far--will share further, when I get them all arranged in the quilt top.
